Step into ‘Punjabi Tadka’ for a sizzling variety of authentic apna Punjab da khana! There’s a list of over 50 varieties of Punjab’s national bird: orange-red tandoori chicken, butter chicken, kadhai chicken, Afghani chicken, chicken Patiala / Peshawri, chicken doh pyaza, handi chicken, methi chicken…. enough to drive you breathless!

The décor is nothing much to write home about, but the food is good (easy on the pocket too!) and the portions are hearty. The daals come with authentic and flavourful home-style Punjabi Tadka: try the daal makhani with dollops of freshly churned white butter or the yellow moong with an aromatic jeera, ginger and chilly tadka.

The mutton roghan josh, lababdaar, Punjabi / Patiala / Peshawri and Mughlai come well recommended. Team these with hot naans smothered with butter, missi roti, kulcha, crisp tandoori / pudina rotis or flaky lachchedar paratha. The variety of stuffed parathas ranges from keema, egg and chicken to paneer, aloo and gobi.

For the die-hard vegetarians there’s paneer of course in a variety of avatars, but we suggest you move on to greener pastures and try the mushroom doh pyaza, aloo laal tamatar, capsicum gobi, rajma, Pindi chana and dum aloo.

Wash it all down with a large glass of sweet or salt lassi, in true Sher-e-Punjab style…
